CR SOCCER RIDE - LET IT RAIN EDITION

Posted by Chip Hemmel on 13 May 2017

Good morning gang!

The forecast has improved ever so slightly -- still rain but lighter -- and while we're still deciding; it appears we are riding and abbreviated route to the Soccer tournament.

**IMPORTANT: CHECK THE RIDELINE - 315-624-7433 - AFTER 6:30; WE MAY YET ABANDON THIS PLAN.

CR WEATHER:

TIME; TEMP; DEW POINT; RH; SKY; WIND

9:00 am    50 °F  48 °F  91%   Chance of Rain 4 mph SE
10:00 am   50 °F 47 °F  89%   Rain                5 mph SE
11:00 am   51 °F 47 °F  87%   Chance of Rain 6 mph SE

UNIFORM OF THE DAY: Moisture managing - inside and out.

ON TOP: I'd suggest a wicking base layer under a lightweight long sleeve insulating layer with your bike jersey as the outer layer. You’ll want to have your rain jacket...ON. You may also wish to have a bandana (du rag) or cap.

BELOW THE WAIST: I’d go with bike shorts (you may want knee or leg warmers) or 3/4 length (Capri’s) bottoms. Rain pants over bike shorts if you have them. You’ll want your mid-weight wool or synthetic socks; may want glove liners under your bike gloves.

HELPFUL HINT: Some baby wipes; a towel and something loose and dry to change into with dry socks will be handy to have in the car for post ride warmth.

AS ALWAYS: Have your RoadID, shades (clear or light lens), sunblock, lip balm and a snack or two; two water bottles — one full with water; one with some sports drink — or more water if you're bringing energy chews or "bloks" as snacks - see "Fuel" post below. (3/29).

DON[T FORGET YOUR MEDS: If you use an inhaler or epi-pen, please have them with you. You may want to let Dr. Ritter and Dr. Rubin know you have them aboard.

DON'T FORGET YOUR HELMET...IT'S A MUST!

— AND —

LIGHTS, FORE AND AFT, IF YOU HAVE THEM.

Please have a spare inner tube, some tire levers and a means to inflate the tube should you need to use it. Speaking of inflation of tires; please top them off before arriving — check the sidewall but most of you will be looking for somewhere around 100 - 120 PSI. If you're not sure about this part; please bring your pump in the car with you.

REMEMBER: SAG SUPPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE BUT THEY WILL HAVE MINIMAL SPACE FOR GEAR - so please plan for items you can wear or stuff easily in your saddlebag or pockets.

Let it rain, rain, rain...."
